We are a peat free compost supplier in Belper, Derbyshire. We offer bags of organic peat free compost for collection from our small nursery and garden at Belper Lane End or delivery locally in Derbyshire.
Peat bogs and moors are extremely important in the facing up to the climate emergency and are valuable, unique habitats. If you invest in peat products from a large retailer, your money has minimal positive impact.
We make our own biochar and natural plant feed that we use in the nursery, along with the composts we sell.
We also grow and sell plants and run courses!

When you buy from us, you support our small business to continue. You help maintain the restorative practices of the compost producers we buy from. As a co-operative society, we reinvest profits to pay workers and grow gardens.
We’re not like a garden centre, we don’t have a huge range sat on pallets with plastic displays. The growing media we stock are proven, high quality, and award winning.

Nutrient-enriched biochar locally made
Biochar is biologically inoculated charcoal. We make natural plant feed diluted in rainwater and soak charcoal in it for at least a week.
Biochar is good to add to your potting mix or garden beds. We use it! In trials, we saw a 50% increase in seedling size versus potting compost without biochar. With great rooting.
Biochar can help to retain moisture and nutrients. It’s known to persist in the soil for hundreds of years.
Available from us loose plastic-free by the litre.

Minimum order of 3 bags. Delivery cost depending on distance. We can collate larger orders if you’re further away, we know it can be hard to get hold of. Please get in touch.

We’re a workers cooperative, that means we use profits to pay our workers, who co-own and collectively manage the business. We’re a young, small business. We reinvest surplus into the business, to grow gardens!
